Michael P. Hanle is a Partner of the Birmingham, Alabama law firm of Jaffe, Hanle, Whisonant & Knight, P.C. The firm concentrates in the area of criminal defense and personal injury, with Mr. Hanle specializing in the areas of drug defense, white collar criminal defense and criminal litigation in the federal and state courts. He has the distinction of being voted a Super Lawyer by his peers from 2012 to the present. He has enjoyed great success and received numerous awards and honor for his work in the area of criminal defense.

Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Hanle ran a very successful solo practice from 1996 – 2015, representing individuals charged in federal, state, and local courts throughout Alabama. His solo practice was limited to criminal defense and he focused his practice on drug defense, white collar criminal defense, and federal criminal defense.

Mr. Hanle began his career as a solo practitioner in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before moving to Birmingham, Alabama. In 1995, Mr. Hanle was the first recipient of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Young Lawyers Section, Pro Bono Award.

Mr. Hanle is currently the Vice President of the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and will serve as President of the organization in 2017 – 2018. He currently serves as the Chair of the Legislative Committee and has been actively involved in the development and amendment of critical legislation related to criminal justice issues on behalf of the organization and its’ members. He has been a speaker at a number of ACDLA sponsored seminars.

Mr. Hanle served as president of the Greater Birmingham Criminal Defense Lawyer's Association. He has been a member of the organization since 1996. He has also been a frequent speaker during continuing legal education classes presented by the organization over the years.
